There’s no denying that the
Beatles’ ill-fated 1967 TV film is an unmitigated disaster—with the exceptions
of the “I Am the Walrus” and “Fool on the Hill” interludes—but even the group’s
failures (few as there were) are interesting, and this manic, improvised,
amateurish fantasy certainly is that.
Even though the original video elements have never been in good shape, the color movie looks sharp on Blu-ray; extras include a chatty McCartney commentary, new interviews with Paul and Ringo; and additional footage.
